The march of AIDS through Asia
Article Abstract:
Since its introduction into southeastern Asia in the late 1980s, HIV infection has spread rapidly. In 1995, there were 2.5 million new infections in the region, more than in sub-Saharan Africa and the rest of the world combined. Infection rates are highest in intravenous drug users and prostitutes. The double standard in sexual behavior appears to be mostly responsible for the rapid spread of the disease. Many Asian men have sex with prostitutes, who quickly become infected and spread the disease to other men, who spread it to their wives and children.

HIV risk profile of drug-using women who have sex with women in 19 United States cities
Article Abstract:
The authors interviewed a number of women who have sex with other women, particularly those who either use crack cocaine or inject drugs, to determine the amount of high risk behavior. They found, for example, that 53% had shared needles, and that only 6% used barriers when giving oral sex to other women.
