Article Abstract:

An overview is given of the medical device field with examples from a survey of the healthcare literature to determine the level of user involvement in device development. Focusing on a needs-based approach allows nurses to use their experience and skills, and a problem-solving approach has resulted in nurses inventing devices that benefit both themselves and patient care.
