An account is presented on ten individuals who have made significant contributions to the nursing profession by providing the best of nurses. Providing the best possible care for patients and setting the highest standards for a profession they loved was their motivation.

The success of a groundbreaking expansion of the role of nurses on the acute stroke unit at Hope Hospital in Manchester, part of Safford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust is highlighted. The new roles of the nurses have made people aware of their capacities and responsibility.
