The role of therapeutic antimicrobial mouthrinses in clinical practice: control of supragingival plaque and gingivitis
Article Abstract:
Studies have shown that antibacterial mouthwashes can reduce the amount of plaque on teeth and can also reduce gingivitis. They may also reduce the number of bacteria on the tongue. Consequently, they can be used by patients who may not do well with mechanical oral hygiene products such as toothbrushes and dental floss. However, they should not be considered a substitute for these products.
