The special needs of children receiving intravenous therapy

Article Abstract:

The insertion and maintenance of intravascular devices for children receiving intravenous therapy is different from that received by adults. The condition of the children having intravenous therapy can deteriorate rapidly if complications occur and nurses caring for these patients must be vigilant at all times so that every signs of infection and other complications can be detected, investigated and corrected.

Venepuncture is a procedure that is performed by nursing and medical staff in a wide variety of clinical areas, as a clinical and diagnostic aid in patient management. The professional responsibilities of venepuncture are that all nurses who practice venepuncture must have received approved training and documented, supervised practice.
