Therapy of human tumors in NOD/SCID mice with patient-derived reactivated memory T cells from bone marrow

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns a novel cancer therapy that uses a breast cancer patients' bone-marrow-derived memory T cells to generate effector cells and immune responses. Research on cellular immunotherapy, anti-tumor reactivity, and tumor lysates is discussed.

Bone marrow as a priming site for T- cell responses to blood-borne antigenl

Article Abstract:

Bone marrows potential to serve as a secondary immune organ has hardly been explored. It is demonstrated that naive, antigen-specific T cells home to bone marrow, where they can be grounded.

Reduction in new metastases in breast cancer with adjuvant clodronate treatment

Article Abstract:

The drug clodronate can reduce the rate of breast cancer metastasis to bone. Clodronate belongs to the class of drugs called bisphosphonates. Researchers randomly assigned 302 women with breast cancer and evidence of tumor cells in bone to take clodronate or receive the standard follow-up (the control group). After an average follow-up of three years, 21 of the women taking clodronate had metastases, compared to 42 women in the control group. The number of metastases to the bone in the clodronate group was half that in the control group. Six women in the clodronate group died versus 22 in the control group.
