Thing that go bump
Article Abstract:
An informal survey of ward noise affecting the sleep of aged, mentally ill patients has been conducted at Ham Green Hospital, Bristol, England. Staff recorded ward sounds for four weeks and patients indicated which noises disturbed them. Noise within the ward was largely caused by patient and staff movement and equipment. However, sensitivity to sound varied. A plan to reduce sounds involved moving noisy patients, attending quickly to patients' requests, keeping a tidy ward and making prompt repairs.

Dangerous kicks
Article Abstract:
Nurses have an important role to play in educating teenagers about the dangers of solvent abuse, and need to develop a number of different ways of approaching the issue, including educating both children and parents. Considerable promotional work is now being undertaken by several different bodies, warning that solvents can cause death in first-time users, and the RCN's substance misuse forum has been involved in this work.
