Tough questions... tougher answers: more than half thought patient care had deteriorated since the reforms came in, while only 17% saw an improvement
Article Abstract:
Patient care and NHS management has deteriorated since the introduction of reforms five years ago according to a survey of nurses, particularly in relation to staff shortages, the lack of money and a fall in patient care. More nurses in NHS hospitals or the community reported a fall in management standards compared to those in private hospitals or GP surgeries. Almost half of the nurses surveyed are concerned that there will not be an NHS in 10 years' time. Assistant director of policy at the RCN, Pippa Gough, believes nurses want health care based on sound clinical judgement and not just cost.

How does it feel to be somebody's lifeline?
Article Abstract:
A study of six renal nurses indicated that the nurses found their work fulfilling, though demanding. Some of them found that the working environment could be depressing because kidney disease is a chronic disease and can involve dialysis. One nurse felt privileged to work with renal patients and to get to know them.
