Transmission of human herpes virus 8 by blood transfusion

Article Abstract:

The risk of human herpes virus 8 (HHV-8) transmission by blood transfusion was evaluated in Uganda where HHV-8 is endemic. The study provides strong evidence that HHV-8 is transmitted by blood transfusion but the risk may be diminished as the period of blood storage increases.
