Normalization of immune activation in lymphoid tissue following highly active antiretroviral therapy

Article Abstract:

Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) may restore immune activity in lymph tissue, according to a study of 3 HIV patients. Although HAART suppressed virus in the blood, some cells in the tonsils still contained virus for up to one year after treatment began.

Article Abstract:

People at risk of HIV infection are not being tested sooner even though highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) exists. Between 1994 and 1999, most newly diagnosed patients already had symptoms and evidence of immune deficiency.
