US guidelines on xenotransplantation
Article Abstract:
Guidelines on xenotransplantation in the United States are discussed. A temporary halt to the use of nonhuman primate tissues for medical intervention is going into effect with the release of new guidelines from the US Department of Health and Human Services. The agency will have to decide how to deal with applications for human trials with nonprimate nonhuman tissues. The most promising source of organs from nonhumans is transgenic pigs. Most research is focused there.
