Ultraconservative and cariostatic sealed restorations: results at year 10

Article Abstract:

Treatment of dental cavities with conservative tooth preparation and dental sealants may provide effective and long-lasting tooth restoration. Traditional cavity treatment requires extensive removal of the carious lesion and surrounding healthy tooth structure. Researchers compared this method to one adding dental sealant after drilling and filling, and to placement of sealed composite resin over the cavity, with minimal drilling. Ten years after treatment of 85 tooth pairs, cavities recurred in one composite and one sealed restoration, but in seven unsealed fillings.

A review of all-ceramic restorations

Article Abstract:

Five all-ceramic dental restorations are reviewed. Porcelain is the most commonly used restoration, but it is normally bonded to metal to reduce the risk of fracture. However, many patients may be sensitive to metal and the metal may not result in an aesthetic appearance. For this reason, all-ceramic restorations have been developed that do not contain metal. The five categories are conventional powder-slurry ceramics, castable ceramics, machinable ceramics, pressable ceramics and infiltrated ceramics.

Minimally invasive dentistry

Article Abstract:

Dentists should try to identify patients with early-stage dental caries so they can treat the condition while preserving the natural structure of the tooth. Dental caries is technically an infection, caused by bacteria that convert sugar in the mouth into acid. This acid damages the tooth, causing dental cavities.
