Unintentional-injury deaths increase in 1994
Article Abstract:
A slight increase was noted in unintentional-injury deaths in 1994, as these inched up by 1% from 91,600 in 1993 to 92,200 the following year. It was the fifth leading cause of death in 1994, next only to heart ailment, cancer, stroke and chronic pulmonary disease. Motor-vehicle accidents was the leading cause of unintentional-injury deaths with 43,000, with falls, solid and liquid poisonings and fires and burns lagging behind at 13,300, 8,000 and 4,200, respectively. Costs incurred due to unintentional-injury deaths reached $440.9 billion.

Work-related deaths on the rise
Article Abstract:
The National Safety Council's 1997 report reveals that the number of work related deaths has risen 2%, from 5,000 in 1996 to 5,100 in 1997. The construction sector accounts for the highest death rates 1,180, followed by the transport sector at 960 and agriculture at 740. The transport posts the highest rise in rates with a positive 7% followed by the construction sector with a positive 6%.

Article Abstract:
Unintentional-injury deaths reached 93,300 in 1995, up 2% from the 1994 total of 91,400. This marked the third year in a row that deaths from unintentional injuries have increased. Leading causes of such deaths are motor-vehicle accidents, falls, solid and liquid poisonings, drownings, burns and suffocation. Disabling injuries during the year reached 19.3 million.
