Update in neurology

Article Abstract:

Recent studies of stroke conclude that surgical intervention in symptom-free patients with partially blocked carotid arteries may be best, that tissue plasminogen activator given early may reduce death and disability, and that two imaging studies are rarely needed to classify a stroke. Interferon treatment for multiple sclerosis may have limited value. Elderly persons with parkinsonian signs may be at greater risk for death. Sudden, severe fright may cause sudden cardiac death. Neurologic symptoms resulting from high blood pressure may be more common than believed. Finally, restless legs syndrome often may be misdiagnosed.
