Aldicarb as a Cause of Food Poisoning--Louisiana, 1998
Article Abstract:
Twenty people developed aldicarb poisoning when they ate a cabbage salad contaminated with the pesticide. Aldicarb is rated as one of the most toxic pesticides by the EPA. The food poisoning occurred when employees ate the cabbage salad at a company luncheon. The person who made the salad used a can labelled "black pepper" but the can was subsequently found to contain aldicarb. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry believed the owner of the can had been a crawfish farmer and had used aldicarb on bait to keep dogs and raccoons from eating it.
