Updated Recommendations From the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices in Response to Delays in Supply of Influenza Vaccine for the 2000-01 Season

Article Abstract:

Improved manufacturing processes have prevented the predicted shortage of influenza vaccine for the 2000-2001 season. However, most shipments of vaccine will arrive later in the year than usual, with only 18 million out of 75 million doses delivered by December. Usually, 99% of the doses are available by December.

Article Abstract:

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) reports its recommendations for influenza vaccination in anticipation of a reduced supply of the vaccine for the winter of 2000-2001. Influenza causes about 20,000 deaths and 110,000 hospitalizations every year in the US.

Delayed Influenza Vaccine Availability for 2001-02 Season and Supplemental Recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices

Article Abstract:

There may be a shortage of influenza vaccine in October, 2001, so doctors should focus on people at high risk of influenza. By November and December, the supply of vaccine should be comparable to the same time period in 1999 and should exceed the supply in the winter of 2000.
