Uterine relaxation responses to calcitonin gene-related peptide and calcitonin gene-related peptide receptors decreased during labor in rats
Article Abstract:
A reduction in the activity of calcitonin gene-related peptide during labor may play a role in uterine contraction. Researchers took samples of uterine muscle from rats at various times during pregnancy and labor. During pregnancy, the muscle relaxed in the presence of calcitonin gene-related peptide, but not during labor or delivery. A chemical that inhibits nitric oxide blocked this response, indicating that nitric oxide may be involved. Nitric oxide and calcitonin gene-related protein both cause relaxation of smooth muscle.

Increased expression of cyclin G1 in leiomyoma compared with normal myometrium
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on cyclin G1. The authors have investigated the expression of this cyclin in leiomyoma and its expression alteration, and they suggest that cyclin G1 is overexpressed in uterine leiomyoma in a p53-dependent manner, and that this abnormality may be due to the human uterine leiomyoma proliferation.

Effects of steroid hormones on calcitonin gene-related peptide receptors in cultured human myometrium
Article Abstract:
The authors have investigated the role of human myometrial explants in culture. The hypothesis that the use of these explants helps to regulate calcitonin gene-related peptide B receptors by steroid hormones has been tested, and the results are prsented.
