Virginia Lee and John Trojanowski
Article Abstract:
Virginia Lee and John Trojanowski together direct the Center for Neurodegenerative Disease Research at the University of Pennsylvania, for Alzheimer disease research. The couple, who remain happily married for thirty years, defied the dominant theory that plaques made of a sticky protein called amyloid-beta trigger the damage in demented Alzheimer brain. Instead, they argued that tangles of the tau protein, the other pathologic hallmark of Alzheimer, cause the symptoms.
