Waterlow revisited
Article Abstract:
The use of pressure sore risk calculators plays a key role in identifying which patients are most at risk of developing pressure sores, thus ensuring that attention is given to prevention, rather than to expensive treatment once sores have developed. Many different calculators have been developed, but it is impossible to assess their effectiveness with any real accuracy. Risk calculators with good specificity generally have poor sensitivity, while those with good sensitivity have poor specificity.

Holistic pressure care
Article Abstract:
An air-fluidised bed can play an effective role in the treatment of patients with severe pressure sores. It is important to allow plenty of rest and sleep, as extensive cell division occurs at night. In some cases, the patient needs advice on nutrition, as poor nutrition can inhibit healing. After the sore has healed, advice must be given on ways of preventing other sores developing.
