We must not distance ourselves from patients' costs
Article Abstract:
The extent to which physicians are unaware of the medical costs incurred by their patients is disconcerting. This lack of awareness illustrates graphically the extent to which the human element is lacking in medicine. To address the problem, one hospital instituted a cost awareness program wherein physicians received billing copies randomly. The program revealed blatant discrepancies because of physician/nurse negligence. In one instance, billings for the same surgical procedure ranged between $300 and $2,400.

Funding growth: there are plenty of capital resources beyond the local bank. Here's a guide to finding the right one
Article Abstract:
Physician groups are increasingly being called upon to invest in ambulatory care centers, expensive diagnostic equipment and other capital improvement to stay competitive in the health care market. Several ways to raise the money required for these investments are discussed. For example, local banks may be able to lend amounts under about $5 million. Capital can also be raised from real-estate backed loans, institutional investors or joint venture partners.
