Article Abstract:

A new system called the Intranet will use Internet and World Wide Web technology to link medical information networks even if the networks use different software. Physicians will soon use browser programs and groupware, such as Lotus Notes, to find medical information within their organization. Intranet is chosen as a term because the system will operate only within an organization so patient privacy will be protected and organization security assured.

Liability records going on line in Massachusetts

Article Abstract:

The medical board of the state of Massachusetts plans to release on-line data about physicians. Available by telephone, fax, CD-ROM, and the Internet, the information will include details of settlement of malpractice cases plus disciplinary action by hospitals or the board, in addition to general information about each doctor and his or her practice and training. The board sent physicians copies of their profiles for correction of errors.

Solo practice: a contrarian view

Article Abstract:

A few contrarian consultants maintain that the solo or small physician practice is still a viable option for many doctors. Consolidation and cost pressures have encouraged thousands of physicians to merge with larger medical groups or sell their practices to hospitals. One management consultant maintains that small practices can survive provided that they are cost effective and efficient.
