Signs of progress evident in patient protection battle

Article Abstract:

Developments in Washington, DC, Colorado, and Texas indicate that some insurers and doctors are moving closer together on the issue of protections for patients and physicians in managed-care organizations. Washington physicians and a Blue Cross preferred-provider organization reached a legal agreement that provides due process for physicians excluded from the plan and allows physicians' direct involvement in credentialing.

Marketplace issues haunt physicians; provider protections, antitrust relief urged

Article Abstract:

Physicians have more to worry about, as they grow increasingly optimistic about tort-reform in Apr 1995. Such issues as ERISA reform, antitrust relief and oversight of unfair managed care practices must be faced along with the noneconomic-damage cap proposal that is working its way through Congress and must pass the Senate to be approved. The tort-reform measure has the support of the American Medical Assn.
