Whole lot of living
Article Abstract:
Recent research has indicated that older people are particularly keen to have a reciprocal relationship with the nurses who care for them, with psychological issues being given a high priority. Nursing theory supports this approach, emphasising the importance of addressing the patient's psychological needs. However, nurses dealing with older people often find that they have problems when attempting to put this into practice. It is vital that they are aware of the importance of simply spending time with a patient, rather than being busy with physical care all the time.

From pillar to post: Midwife Beryl Green was relieved to know her 90-year-old aunt would be cared for by a named nurse, but her experience ultimately proved a frustrating and harrowing one
Article Abstract:
A midwife describes her experiences relating to the hospitalization of her 90-year-old aunt. A named nurse had been assigned to the aunt but very little had been done for the aunt, whose ulcerated leg had become necrotic, in the four days since her admission. The aunt was unnecessarily barrier nursed in a single room and her mobility deteriorated badly. Also she was transferred to a community hospital nearer to her home, and the purpose of the transfer was not explained.
