Will the NHS ever be connected?

Article Abstract:

A national IT infrastructure programme called 'Connecting for Health' (CfH) would be set up in all NHS hospitals and primary care practices by 2010 in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness. The new systems includes NHS Care Records Service to create an individual electronic care record for every patient, electronic appointment booking, electronic prescription service, National Network for the NHS and NHSmail national email and directory service.

Opportunity knocks in anaesthetics: some trusts are breaking down traditional barriers between doctors and nurses in anaesthetics

Article Abstract:

Seven National Health Service trusts in the UK have been involved in pilot schemes which have looked at issues including expanding the role of nursing staff in anaesthetic services. It is clear that there is potential for traditional role divisions to be overcome and for systems to be established in which the talents of staff are used to best advantage.

A nurse-envisaged NHS

Article Abstract:

Nurses in Birmingham, East London, Bradford and Northumbria were gathered together to determine how the NHS should be run efficiently. A debate of their ideas with their local health service manager revealed practical suggestions and issues, which could actually make a difference to patients.
