Factors affecting African-American participation in AIDS research

Article Abstract:

Distrust of scientists and research institutions is a major reason why many African-Americans do not participate in AIDS research. This was the conclusion of a survey of 301 African-Americans in Durham, North Carolina.

Willingness to volunteer in future preventive HIV vaccine trials: issues and perspectives from three U.S. communities

Article Abstract:

Doctors who evaluate AIDS vaccines need to provide potential study participants with complete information about the trial. A survey of 90 gay men, drug addicts, and African-Americans found that many were concerned about contracting AIDS from the vaccine and social stigmatization.

Willingness of injection drug users to participate in an HIV vaccine efficacy trial in Bangkok, Thailand

Article Abstract:

Many injection drug users in Bangkok, Thailand would be willing to participate in a study of an AIDS vaccine. In a survey of 193 injection drug users, half said they would participate.
