Wisdom and falsehoods: naming the practice wisdom of nursing in the home and the falsehoods opposing that practice

Article Abstract:

Nursing care provided in the patient's home continues to lose status and funding. Hospice nurses, public health nurses, visiting nurses and other nurses practicing in similar ways have been part of U.S. health care for over 100 years. They have developed enormous stores of information and wisdom about caring for patients. Funding continues to be cut because of lies about the effects of home care. These include beliefs that it does not work, that illness is the fault of the patient, that home care creates dependency and many other falsehoods.

Genetics and community health nursing

Article Abstract:

Community health nursing will require knowledge of risks, benefits and guidelines involved in genetic testing as it becomes more prevalent in community settings and with high-risk groups. As nurses participate in newborn screening and genetic testing of populations at risk for specific inherited disorders, they will be called upon to apply their knowledge in education, direct care and advocacy for their clients.

Comfort care interventions in a preimplantation genetic testing program

Article Abstract:

Holistic nursing techniques and interventions have been developed to reduce the discomfort level of infertile families who have pursued assisted reproductive technology (ART) to have children and for families using ART to reduce the risk of conceiving children with genetic disorders. This concept of care provides four dimensions of comfort that fall under the domain of nursing.
