Dynamic techno-management capability of Indian computer firms in comparison with Korea

Article Abstract:

Dynamic techno-management capability (DTMC) in companies is discussed. DTMC is the managerial know-how of technological development routes that are technologically intensive, dynamically complex and risky. Indian computer companies were contrasted with a Korean electronics firm, Samsung Electronics Co. While Samsung has attained dominance in Asia, Wipro Information Technology Ltd of India failed to achieve excellence in computer design because of the unavailability of quality component supplies in India. Indian computer firms have no choice but to focus on software development if they are to compete effectively in the global market.

Managing tensions in user groups

Article Abstract:

An analysis of user group management techniques reveals that companies need skilled customer relations officers in order to accomodate user input effectively and deal with those whose requests are not accommodated. Techniques would include segregating routine development issues from non-routine design suggestions, allocating specific times for user groups of different sophistication levels and explaining the inability of the company to accomodate some requests through humorous or derogatory remarks of a competitor's products.

User groups in action: the management of user inputs in the NPD process

Article Abstract:

The development of a new product can be enhanced with the participation of user groups, as a case study of a computer software copany shows. User groups will provide the necessary inputs to make the product responsive to a particular market. Product development teams that plan to use user groups in their process need an effective product development manager and responsive team members to extract useful inputs from the groups that will guide product development.
