Abdul-Jabber was a confirmed superstar and winner of many awards by the time he retired in 1989 at the age of 42. What he did as a basketball center had never been done before. In 1995 he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Since retirement he has written a book on Black historical figures.
