Lloyd Bentsen, American political leader, government official, lawyer, businessman, and an achiever in Texas Democratic politics served in the US House of Representatives from 1949 to 1955. As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee from 1987 to 1993, Bentsen championed international trade as well as Texas interests such as oil and gas industries.
