The self-made millionaire was initially appointed as director of the Small Business Administration and then as White House Chief of Staff in 1994. Mbeki, Thabo

Thabo Mbeki is already expected to become the next president of South Africa when Nelson Mandela retires in 1999. Mbeki has been the country's executive deputy president since 1994. He had been active in the movement against apartheid while he worked in the African National Congress from 1967 to 1970.
