The baseball player, Johan Santana became the first Venezuelan-born player to receive the Cy Young Award, given to the best pitcher in each league of the majors and was named the AL Pitcher of the Year by the Sporting News. Santana participates in TwinsCare, a program that provides tickets for the team's home games to underprivileged youth in the Minnesota area and also known to provide donations to families in Venezuela affected by floods.

Jim Abbott, a pitcher for the California Angels, is one of the few major-league pitchers to have thrown a no-hitter and to throw a fastball at more than 90 mph. His accomplishments are especially remarkable because he was born with a deformed right hand. His life and career are profiled.
