Jose Santos, one of the most accomplished jockeys in history, is known for his tactical patience during races and strong finishes. In 1988, he won the Eclipse Award, which recognized excellence in thoroughbred racing, and in 2003 he won the Kentucky Derby, which was the most prestigious event in thoroughbred horse racing in the U.S. and the first leg of the elusive Triple Crown.

Imam W. Deen Mohammed is the spiritual father of the American society of Muslims that has over two million members. President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt honored Mohammed with a gold medal in 1992 and 1993 in recognition of his religious work in the United States.
