Lemon, born in 1952, had the world of dance open for him when he took a college dance class. A high point was his 1988 winning of the Boston Ballet annual competition. He then choreographed a new work for the company. His attitudes about race, his dances, and the disbanding of his company, are discussed.

Miller, Bebe
Article Abstract:
Miller began performing and choreographing in her early 20s after earning her degree from Earlham College. She launched her own dance company, the Bebe Miller Company in 1981. Miller has not confined her works to racial issues, saying she does not want to be limited by such constraints.

Marshall, Susan

Marshall is a dance choreographer known for her simplicity and integral movements. She founded her own dance company known as Susan Marshall and Company in 1983. She catapulted to prominence and fame in the New York dance scene through her works which include "Arms" and "Kiss".
