Wayne Shorter is generally considered to be one of the most influential jazz musicians of his era. The tenor and soprano saxophonist is a contemporary of such jazz greats as Miles Davis and Art Blakey. Shorter claims to have developed his love for jazz while listening to it on the radio as a child.

The single-note improvised jazz melody on the piano is popularly attributed to jazz pianist, Tommy Flanagan, who has accompanied jazz greats like Miles Davis, John coltrane and Ella Fitzgerald. Several of his works have been nominated for Grammy Awards.
