Alfonso Gonclaves Baldaya and Adalbert Vallarte
Article Abstract:
Alfonso Baldaya and Adalbert Vallarte were both explorers of the western coast of Africa, and are depicted on 1992 Dominican stamps. Baldaya was Portuguese and was the first to explore beyond Cape Bojadar during the 15th century. This gave way to African slave trade in Portugal.

Three intrepid Portuguese explorers
Article Abstract:
Three 15th century Portuguese explorers, Tristao Vaz Teixeira, Bartolomeu Persetrelo and Joao Goncalves Zarco, are commemorated on postage stamps. They all explored islands off West Africa and discovered Madeira. Perestrelo's daughter married Christopher Columbus.

D'Albuquerque was recognized by India for his efforts to make it a trading post for Portugal in the early 1500s. His efforts and explorations are described.
