Are electronic advances in SLRs outrunning our needs, wants, and abilities?
Article Abstract:

SLRs in Japan and Europe have warning beeps and automatic pop-up flash. So why don't our SLRs have these features?
Article Abstract:
Camera manufacturers hold patents to various equipment features. They exchange patent rights among themselves to build cameras at fair market prices. US companies own the beeper and pop-up flash patents and want cash in exchange for patent rights, a prohibitive cost for the Japanese.
