Auroral dreamscapes: what's the toughest thing about photographing the northern lights? Keeping warm!

It is not necessary to go to the Arctic region to capture the aurora borealis on film. Between September and April, it can be seen in the northern US and Canada. A standard single lens reflex camera, wide-angle lenses and Kodachrome 200 with an exposure of 45 to 75 seconds are advisable.
