Bicycle winch launch

Alan McPherson of New Zealand has developed a innovative winch launcher for sailplanes. The launcher, which consists of a bicycle frame, an up-front pulley and a small parachute, is capable of launching a sailplane several hundred feet into the air.

The Gee Bees were excellent aerobatic model race airplanes. They were flown extensively in airshows, particularly the Gee Bee Sportsters and Senior Sportsters. The Gee Bee Model Y garnered the national aerobatic title during the 1932 Omaha races.
