The varieties of turquoise and its different appealing colors elicit varied responses to jewelers. For some, its unique patterns evoke an emotional response. Turquoise also has historical value because it is a part of American Indian culture. Indians consider it their sacred stone.

A survey conducted on jewelry makers revealed that majority of the respondents considered silversmithing as their particular specialty, specifically casting, fabricating, enameling and etching. In terms of design, realistic and geometric design styles are more preferred.
