Opal, the gemstone of light filled with flashes of red, orange, green, and blue, is the most difficult gemstone to photograph well. The different techniques of removing photographs for this vibrant colored gemstone are provided.

Opals break easily during and after setting in jewelry. A technique to prevent this basically involves spreading pressures evenly around the stone. This is done by wrapping gold or silver around the entire edge.
