Conkling born in 1829, had a long political life that included being mayor of Utica, NY, a congressman and a senator. He was offered the chief justice post in 1864 but rejected it. Other highlights in his political life are recounted. His free franks covers used when he was senator, are collected.

Humorist Will Rogers has a philatelic legacy
Article Abstract:
Rogers, with Native American heritage from both parents, became one of the highest paid Americans of his times. He was entertainer, actor, columnist, and political satirist. Nicaragua issued a stamp for his earthquake relief efforts there. Two US stamps were issued in his honor, in 1948 and 1979.

Article Abstract:
John F. Kennedy's domestic program was generally liberal when he served as US President. He was the youngest, and first Catholic, to be elected to that office. The Peace Corps was established during his tenure. Three postage stamps have been issued in his memory.
