Counterfeit stamps that helped win the war
Article Abstract:
Altered French postage stamps were used as identifiers so that allied spies could recognize each other. The changes to the stamps were slight, such as a wider mustache on the design of Gen Petain. Unused spy stamps are not rare but used ones are very rare as most were destroyed upon receipt.

Article Abstract:
Stories about two 'perfect crimes in which postal employees stole stamps and packages are presented. The majority of the time, the postal workers are to be commended for their honesty in handling the mail. But sometime when thousands of temps are hired for Christians, crime may occur.

Pioneer airmail item recognized in shirt shop
Article Abstract:
A knowledgable collector describes how he won a bet as to what was on the back of a framed old post card hanging up in a clothing shop. He recognized the postcard as being one from 1911 when the first authorized air mail flight was made. He won the bet.
