Article Abstract:
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) recently received a donation of Honduran black opals from Marshall Martin and a hummingbird-flower diorama from Edward R. Swoboda. Such donations aid the GIA in showing design variety and in teaching gem-cutting techniques.

The diamond bowtie
Article Abstract:
An accidental cut in the process of cutting an emerald stone resulted in a new gem cutting design called the diamond bowtie. This new cut won the faceting design award of the American Society of Gemcutters in 1990.
