Edward John Eyre was the first European to explore central and western Australia, and a lake and other natural formations there are named after him. Later he became a politician in St. Vincent, where he ordered mass executions, and was later recalled.

De Cadamosto was an Italian native who sailed in the 15th century for Prince Henry the Navigator of Portugal to Africa. He allegedly discovered the Cape Verde Islands. The Dominican Republic issued a stamp in his honor.
