The Empire copper mine at the Alder Creek mining district in Idaho is home to a vast assortment of copper minerals such as malachite and chrysocolla. Once the largest mine in the US, the formerly White Knob mine met some losses in 1905, but its production increased in 1916.

Carr Canyon in Arizona was the scene of a short-lived gold and tungsten mining that left behind plenty of quartz crystals for quartz enthusiasts to collect. Small quantities of doubly terminated crystals measuring 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches can be found in the area.
