"Ghost image" error was quickly proven a fraud
Article Abstract:
In 1944 a stamp to commemorative the 1869 completion of the transcontinental railroad was issued. Upwards of 60 mil stamps were issued. Rare stamps with a faint impression of the picture on the back were reported. One sold for $300. Then the fraud was uncovered and the 'rare' stamps disappeared.

The story behind the automobile stamp of 1952
Article Abstract:
The 1952 stamp was promoted by AAA to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Several designs were proposed by members of the AAA although they received no credit. THe final design was not liked by everyone. It had a 1902 car with the driver on the left side, but back then driving was righthand drive.

Teddy Roosevelt fought corruption in the Post Office
Article Abstract:
In 1903 Roosevelt oversaw an intensive investigation into fraud in the US Post Office. He was driven by a desire for decency in government and ignored the political consequences of the investigations. Stamps honoring Roosevelt were issued in 1922, 1938, and 1955.
