Article Abstract:
The Harvard Mineralogical Museum has collected precious stones from around the world since 1784 through acquisitions, donations and endowments. It has accumulated 2,000 pieces of rare and valuable gemstones. The museum has also collated information on precious stones of the New England region.

Hiddenite is a variety of spodumene whose color is conditioned by chromium. Facetors must consider hiddenite's pleochroism and distinct cleavage in cutting the gem.
