Held hostage in a picker's home

A stamp collector visited the home of a man who had a number of paper items relating to Lincoln. The collector was able to find $700 worth of covers to buy but the owner refused his travelers' checks. Leaving his wife behind as hostage, the man finally went to a bank and got cash for the checks.

New omnibus salutes the queen mother

The queen mother of the UK will be honored with a multinational issue of stamps to note her 95th birthday. The joint effort of 16 nations is being coordinated by the Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corp of New York. A biography of the queen mother after Edward VIII's abdication is given.
