Article Abstract:

A sportfisherman described the use of a color video depthsounder/fishfinder to track big fishes such as tuna or marlin. Once the tuna were detected, they were caught using conventional rods and reels. They objective was not to catch them as a prize but to allow scientists to conduct scientific studies on the fishes.

High-tech tuna tagging

Article Abstract:

Researchers are studying bluefin tuna by placing electronic archival tags inside their peritoneal cavities. The tags provide data on swimming depth and internal temperature. Scientists are developing a 'pop-up' tag that will float to the surface and then provide data. Each tag will cost about $5,000.

Tempting tuna

Article Abstract:

One important factor in fishing for tuna is choosing the right lure. The size, shape and color are the factors to consider in selecting the right lures. The best colors for tuna lures are blue, purple, red violet and white, while the best shapes are the bullet and jet heads.
