Some photographers have expressed concern that photographs developed using digitalized computer techniques do not depict reality and cannot be considered photography. This is considered incorrect since old techniques such as burning, dodging, multiple exposure and photomontage have been used in creating artificial photographs.

Soulscapes

'Soulscapes' is a collection of montage photographs by Susan Slotter, an Aspen, CO, fine-art photographer. Her works are set in the desert where she combines female nude models with the rock formations of the area. Slotter makes her montages in sandwich form, rather than through multiple exposures.

One way to manipulate photographic slides creatively with impressionist results is to re-shoot them through transparent but textured glass or plastic. Required equipment is a slide projector, two square-foot rear-projection screen and a camera with a macro lens and cable release.
